The University Grants Commission (UGC) has assigned the National Testing Agency (NTA) the responsibility of administering UGC-NET, an examination that determines the eligibility of Indian citizens for the ‘Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor’, ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’, and ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ in Indian educational institutions. The NTA will conduct UGC-NET in June 2024 for ‘Junior Research Fellowship’, eligibility for ‘Assistant Professor’, and admission to Ph.D. in 83 subjects through OMR (Pen & Paper) mode.

Educational Qualifications

To be eligible for the Assistant Professor position, you need to have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks from a recognized university. For the JRF & Assistant Professor position, you must have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade along with a valid NET (National Eligibility Test) or SET (State Eligibility Test) score.

Age limit

There is no maximum age limit for the Assistant Professor Positions. For the JRF & Assistant Professor role, the maximum age limit is 31 years as of June 1, 2024. However, there are some relaxations for candidates from reserved categories.

NTA UGC NET June 2024 – Exam Pattern

The UGC-NET exam consists of two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a general aptitude test that assesses your teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness. Paper 2 is a subject-specific test that evaluates your knowledge of the chosen subject. Both papers are multiple-choice questions and will be held on the same day in two separate sessions. The total duration of the exam is three hours.
